The Department of Design of Pratap University, was set up with a vision to enrich the creative minds of the country. The department offers a B.Des. degree in Fashion, Textile & Interior Design. The focus of the program is on the study, invention, and creative use of technologies to create effective, usable, enjoyable experiences with technology. The department envisions producing successful graduates who will be capable of leading the changing scenarios of today and tomorrow through thought, innovation and values.

Fashion & Textile Design

As fashion is a major medium of self-expression in India today the popularity of fashion technology courses including textile design intensive courses are rapidly rising in the country. The scope for fashion design jobs in India is immense as Indians have increasingly become more conscious about their appearance and seek to enhance it in every way. Clothing companies need to hire people in a variety of jobs, ranging from Fashion designers, textile designers, models, retailers, buyers and merchandisers, to provide end-to-end solutions to their clients. Fabrics can be made by weaving and knitting and can be given basic decoration through printing. Textile designing is a technical process including different methods for production of textile. It includes both- surface design and structural design of a textile. Textile designer must have knowledge of yarn making, weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing processes, and also knowledge about different types of looms, knitting machines, and printing processes. The following basic activities can be included in textile designing.

The graduates can work in various industries such as export houses, textile mills, leather companies, media houses, marketing sector, boutiques, etc. In these firms, one can work as costume designer / fashion consultant / personal stylist / technical designer / cutting assistant / quality control manager / fashion coordinator.

Interior Designing:

  • Interior designers are skilled at providing a full scope of services which may vary with each project but generally include:
  • Analyzing the client's needs and goals
  • Integrating findings with knowledge of interior design, economic trends as well as legal and regulatory requirements
  • Formulating design concepts that is functional, fiscally appropriate and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Overseeing the interior design process including project budgeting and schedules
  • Preparing working drawings and specifications for interior construction, space planning, materials, finishes, furnishings, fixtures and equipment
  • Collaborating with other practitioners who offer professional services in the technical areas of mechanical, electrical and structural design, as required for regulatory approvals (building permits)
  • Reviewing and evaluating construction during implementation and coordinating the completion of the project with a consultant team.
