Message By Head

Amit Arvind Bansod
M.Lib., NET, SET, Ph.D.*

As the Head of the School of Library & Information Science at Pratap University, I take great pride in contributing to the academic and research growth of our vibrant university community. With over eight years of experience in academic library management, my journey in Library and Information Science has been driven by a passion for lifelong learning, digital innovation, and empowering students through access to knowledge.

I hold a Master's degree in Library and Information Science, have qualified UGC-NET and MH-SET for Assistant Professorship, and am currently pursuing my Ph.D. from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University.

My professional focus lies in promoting digital literacy, enhancing research skills, and improving access to global information through modern library practices. I am passionate about motivating students to develop strong reading habits, explore emerging digital tools, and engage meaningfully in academic research. My commitment to lifelong learning and academic excellence drives my contributions to strengthening the university’s knowledge infrastructure.

The Central Library also plays a critical role in promoting digital literacy, user awareness, and equitable access to both print and electronic resources. Through specialized services like reference support, newspaper clipping, e-resource access, and academic documentation, we strive to meet the evolving needs of students and faculty alike.

As we look to the future, my vision is to make our library not just a support system, but a centerpiece of academic excellence across all disciplines at Pratap University.

About the Department

Under the academic and research development program, the Department of Library Sciences was established in July, 2015 in the main residential campus of Pratap University, Jaipur to impart and promote multi and interdisciplinary higher education in library science by utilizing the modern concepts of teaching and research at master and doctorate level.

The department was established with a view to imparting higher education in the field of library science. The department of library and information science has been offering a one-year course in Diploma of Library and Information Science, a one-year course in Bachelor of Library and Information Science, and a one-year course in Master of Library and Information Science at the moment.

The department is working with a vision to educate individuals for careers as librarians, knowledge and information specialists, and to undertake instruction, research, and service programmes that meet current and emerging information and technology needs.

The department has advanced infrastructural facilities like an information Technical lab with the latest technology such as 15 PCs with internet and the latest devices. The curriculum of the course is very comprehensive and job-oriented. The department involves the students in practicals, conferences, discussions, and debates.
